Love My City

No matter where I go, I’ll always be proud of being from Ottawa❤.

Glow Fair Festival

This past weekend Ottawa hosted its first Glow Fair Festival.  A few blocks of Bank st. were shut down in order to hold multiple local musical acts and activities for the children.   They had Judith Hill as their closing act for the festival and I am slightly heartbroken I did not get to see her.  This year, I was unable to experience majority of the festival, but I was able to check out a few performances.  I hope to be able to experience more of the festival next year.

I have to say Glow Fair did a good job in terms of informing the general public about the event.   They had huge posters around the city and I was able to find them in social media.   As I said before, I am excited to see what they have in store for next year.

Music Monday: Tegan and Sara

Tegan and Sara are identical twins from Calgary, Alberta that sing indie rock/pop.  Their songs just make me want to jump around in happiness.  Enjoy!

Music Monday: Bar and Tones featuring Soru and T H E U N K W N

Many people tend to think that Ottawa is a boring scene, but like any other city, you need to find the right people and they will point you in the right direction.  I have been lucky enough to find people that are interested in the local music scene and because of that I am exposed to more and more talent.  Last week, I was lucky enough to catch Soru’s first live performance, an artist that goes by the name T H E   U N K W N  and the head liners were Bars and Tone.  The two opening acts were R&B singers who write their own original material and I have to say I love to see these intimate performances because the only thing you end up focusing on is their talent and they are extremely talented.  Bars and Tone were definitely a high energy hip hop group with some alternative elements mixed in there.  I appreciated the fact that they did not take themselves too seriously and had a sense of humour while performing.  The only downfall with the performances had nothing to do with their talents, unfortunately the sound was a little wonky, but I still enjoyed everything except for one girl’s overzealous cry or I should say shriek that occurred throughout the night.  If you would like to hear some of their music or see what they are up to you can find them in the following links:

Life/Fashion Update

Hey there people! I am the worst at promoting myself but last month, I got to go to KellyRay’s Boutique’s grand opening on behalf of If you are not familiar with their blog, they are one of Ottawa’s most influential fashion blogs.  This was my first time attending something as a “guest blogger” and it was a nice experience.  For those of you in Ottawa or visiting, I would say check it out, for a boutique the prices are reasonable.  This means a lot considering I love thrift shopping and a good sale.  It obviously was not thrift store cheap, but the items were unique enough that I had not seen them in other stores and would be willing to pay depending on the item.  If I want to treat myself and I can justify the purchase, I will definitely go back.  I bought myself a loose fitting cardigan for $60 (I know that is a bit much) but I had been looking for a cardigan like this for years, and I was not successful in my search until that day.  That was just a quick life/fashion update for all of you lovely folks.  More posts will be on their way!  Here is the blog post, click here. kelly-ray-boutique-opening

Music Monday: Shi Wisdom

Hello my beauties! I hope everyone is doing well.  Today’s Music Monday feature is Shi Wisdom.  My friends, if you have not heard this beautiful voice, let me put you on right now. She hails from Toronto, Canada. This soulful songstress is not only a vocal powerhouse, but she can also write.  The first time I heard her song “LoveSpeak”  I needed to find out who she was and from then on, I have not been disappointed.   Her songs have the ability to take you on an emotional ride and I believe good music should be able to evoke emotion.  While listening to her music, it is apparent that she has no issue with being an open book, but she is also very straight forward in her interviews.  I absolutely admire that.  The other thing that I admire is that her goal is not to become famous, rather, to be able to provide for herself through her music, whether it be writing, singing or performing.  I wish her all the best in her musical career because she really deserves it.  You can find all of her music on her website here. Happy Monday everyone!

Music Monday: A Tribe Called Red

Hailing from the nation’s capital Ottawa, Canada, A Tribe Called Red is comprised of Ian “DJ NDN” Campeau, Dan “DJ Shub” General and Bear Witness. These three artists seamlessly mesh electronic music and First Nation’s drumming and vocal chanting.  They released their first self-titled album in 2012 as a free download, click here.  On August 29th, they will have a concert in Ottawa at the Museum of Civilization.  If I can make it, I think I will go check them out.

This is the song that initially caught my attention. The heavy drums along with the powerful vocals are very appealing to me.  The beat really resonates with me and I cannot help but want to get up and dance.  Enjoy!

Here is an interview done by Guillaume Decouflet giving you an insight as to what A Tribe Called Red is about in their own words. *Please excuse some of the language in the video.

Music Monday: MYCbeats

As of lately a lot of music artists have been following me on Twitter. It has been really awesome because I discovered so many talented people I probably would have never heard of before.

This artist from Toronto, Canada goes by the name of MYCbeats really caught my ear. His smooth beats, melding jazz, hip hop and soul are great to listen to. He has an awesome variety of beats to showcase his talent. I appreciate his instrumentals because they are so masterfully crafted and you get lost in the smooth beats. If you are an artist looking for beats, you should definitely check him out. You can find his information here:

This was the song that sealed the deal for me:
